Last Sunday, Karen and I were asked to do some marshalling in Newbury Town Centre for a pretty spectacular event put on by Newbury Events, The Corn Exchange and New Greenham Arts. At Christmas, the Quidams event was very special and kind of kicked off Christmas in Newbury, and this event has kind of kicked of summer in Newbury.
As with all these things, I had no idea what to expect. When we arrived for the briefing, the Market Place had a large crane in it connected to a bunch of ironwork, so it didnt take a lot to work out that something pretty spectacular was going to happen.
The event was from Transe Express entitled MOBILE HOMME. These guys are one of France’s most exciting street theatre companies and consist of a group of vividly costumed drummers who parade up Northbrook Street to the Market Place and then perform at about 100ft in the air!
Here are some pictures – my camera decided to go wrong half way through so a big thanks to Caroline Paus of Newbury Events for some of the shots.
It does beg the question “What are these guys on to think up such an act?” There must be some region in France that keep producing these performers with some well dodgy stuff in the water!!
Anyway, it was a really great event bring in hundreds of people to the town, so Well done all involved in the organisation and planning.
