And then it was gone! I had heard that a judicial ruling regarding a dispute had been made to dismantle and remove the Ferris wheel, but never realised it would happen that quickly!

The Agadir Ferris Wheel, known locally as “La roue d’Agadir”, took around 6 months to build and was opened in July 2015 and was the first Ferris wheel in Africa.

Standing at 50mt high, right next to the beach, it has been on the holidaymaker’s hit list for both international tourists and internal tourists. 27 gondolas could carry 6 persons, offering outstanding views of the Bay and beach area.

I have never been on it, to be honest, but it always seemed to be busy in the evenings and weekends when we were in Agadir.

This now clears the way for the massive redevelopment of the Agadir Bay Beachfront area which has been going on now for the last 2 – 3 years – known as Project 2024.

I went to take a few pictures, but the wheel was dismantled very quickly, leaving only a stump when I went, so big thanks to M’hand Andam for the great image
