Yesterday, Karen Chapple of JCK Marketing (the wife) and I were lucky enough to be invited by Jeremy Brownlee of Pump Technology Ltd to the Madejski Stadium to enjoy some hospitality and some great premiership rugby with London Irish.
It all started with a quick phone call in the morning – some guests had dropped out and could we join them for the afternoon – so we changed plans quickly and set off to the stadium. The guys at Pump Technology are certainly on the ball and as we arrived, parking was arranged for us in the VIP area and everybody seemed to know who we were…then it all became clear to me – Pump Technology Ltd are one of the major sponsors of the London Irish team, so any guest of their’s was really treated as a VIP!
We were soon settled down with a drink, a program and rugby on Telly – the Bath and Saracens game was in full swing – or rather swim as the pitch in Bath seemed waterlogged – guess they could do with a few pumps from the guys at Pump Technology!
I had not met Jeremy before, but he greeted me like an old friend – these hospitality events can be a bit stuffy if you dont know anybody – but we immediately felt at home with Jeremy and the other guests, and the drinks flowed as you would expect!

After a very nice meal, and a bit of pre-match entertainment, the teams were announced and we settled down to watch the first half. The first half was pretty much dominated by Leicester with some disappointing calls from the ref not helping matters, and the half closed off at 14 – 3 to Leicester.
The second half started well for London Irish and the 3rd Quarter looked like the game was turning, however London Irish failed to capitalise on the 14 man situation and again with some doubtful calls from the Ref, Leicester pulled away – rounding it all off with an outstanding 50 mt run to score a try in the closing moments of the match.
Despite the outcome of the match, we were in for a further treat as several players turned up in the box for a post match chat and drink with everybody. Halani Aulika spent some time with Karen and I – he is a massive bloke – a real man mountain, but such a nice chap. We also had The Armitage Family and Chris Hala’ufia in for a chat as well….such a brilliant atmosphere with all the players in the box with us.
I would really like to thank Jeremy and Jon of Pump Technology for their most kind invitation and generous hospitality, and for making Karen and I so welcome. If you have not been to the Madejski Stadium, it a great place to watch rugby as you are close to the action, the hospitality suite is great too, so think about it for a corporate function.
